Shuffle (2011)

There are some concepts in movies I just can’t get enough of, one of them is the manipulation of time. Whether it’s a story being told in reverse in Memento, travelling in time in Back to the Future, exploring various timelines in Mr.Nobody or getting stuck in time loops in Timecrimes, they always fascinate me. They can sometimes be difficult to grasp and challenge the viewer. It’s exactly that fact I love about them. The Five Year Engagement (2012)

Jason Segel is one of those actors that can really do no wrong in my book and I’ve enjoyed his presence in each movie I’ve seen him in. Ignoring the marketing (it’s usually a bad sign if a movie poster states “From the producer of…” as that says nothing about the quality of this movie) I was looking forward to seeing this movie. Strange Days (1995)

This is a movie you might want to watch if you are anticipating to buy those Google glasses (which allow you to record everything you see). Set in 1999, just days before the new year, Strange Days paints society as a violent one where the end of civilization might happen soon. In this world Lenny Nero (Ralph Fiennes) is a former cop who has become a dealer in experiences. A device has been developed which records everything a person experiences. Those recordings can be played back by another person who feels everything the original person does. It’s a lucrative business for Lenny, but he finds out it is a very dangerous one as well. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

So I might be a bit late to the party, but I finally managed to find some time to head to the cinema and see The Dark Knight Rises. The last couple of months the marketing campaign for the movie was in full force and it seemed that there wasn’t a place you wouldn’t read about it. You might not believe me, but I managed to steer clear of most set photos, previews and trailers. So I went in not knowing much about this final part of the Christopher Nolan trilogy. Chronicle (2012)

I remember having vivid dreams when I was younger in which I had the ability to start flying just by willpower and having the feeling that I finally had the feeling I knew how to do it. Of course I ended up in being disappointed when I woke up and couldn’t. It’s a dream I assume a lot of people have and Chronicle takes the idea of such a dream and makes it a reality. Roman Holiday (1953)

A while ago Ruth from Flixchatter celebrated the birth of (one of) her favorite actors that has graced the screen, Gregory Peck. She advised me to watch Roman Holiday, which is one of her favorites (you can read here why she loves it so much). Prometheus (2012)

When it comes to science fiction movies I’ve got the feeling that there are way too little good ones out each year, so when I heard that Ridley Scott, who’s known for great movies like Bladerunner and Alien would be releasing a new sci fi movie I couldn’t wait to see it. I managed to dodge all news and trailers about the movie, so I went in blank and without expectations. Did Prometheus manage to quench my thirst for good sci fi?

Mirror Mirror (2012)

review

It always amazes me that studios always bring out the same type of movies around the same time. If one type of movie is succesful other studios try to bring out something similar. This year it seems to be time for the fairytale movies based on Snow white.
