La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful) is one of those movies that manages to enchant you. It initially is a very comedic and fun story, but slowly drama creeps into the movie and after watching it you will be heartbroken. Continue reading

Life in a Day (2011)
Just imagine that you would be able to experience everything which happens to people all around the world in a single day, what would be the impression you would get? Youtube answers this question together with Ridley Scott, Kevin MacDonald and Joe Walker. Last year they asked Youtube users to send in any video which was made on the 24th of July 2010. They received an overwhelming 4500 hours of footage and managed to cut this down to a one and a half hour film. Does Life in a Day manage to paint a stunning picture of humankind or is this movie comparable to Mr.Brainwash’s Life Remote Control in Exit Through the Gift Shop? Continue reading
The Adjustment Bureau (2011)
Determinism and free will are two concepts that are complete opposites. Is your path through life already fixed or is it you who makes all the choices? London Boulevard (2010)
London Boulevard isn’t the first gangster movie in which a criminal, in this case Mitchel (Colin Farrell), who has just been released out of prison want to leave his past behind him. “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in” as the Godfather reminds us. Although more of these type of movies have been made it’s alway possible to tell this in an exciting new way. Is London Boulevard capable of providing this or is it comparable to a TV dinner? Continue reading
My Sassy Girl (2001)
The romantic comedy. It’s a genre where a lot of people (especially men) will have mixed feelings about. The target audience are usually women and the stories are very predictable, although there are always exceptions to this rule who manage to do extra things to make them stand out (for example Forgetting Sarah Marshall or When Harry Met Sally). Is My Sassy Girl anything special? Continue reading
The Happening (2008)
Before I watched The Happening I already heard a lot of bad stories about it. M. Night Shyamalan supposedly was losing his magic touch he once possessed. Of course I like to make up my own mind about things, so decided to watch The Happening myself.
A word of warning: Normally I try not to spoil too much about what happens in a movie, but for this one I’m going to make a big exception. So if you don’t want to read spoilers stop reading now. Lees verder
The 39 Steps (1935)
If you have been reading My Filmviews for a bit longer, you have probably noticed that I’m a big fan of Alfred Hitchcock movies. A while ago there was a sale with a lot of his movies in one box and of course I just had to pick it up. I now take my time to slowly work through all these films. One of them was The 39 Steps. A title that doesn’t say a lot about the film itself, but luckily a title isn’t the only reason to decide whether or not a movie is worth seeing.
The 39 Steps is about a man (played by Robert Donat) who meets this woman during a show who tells him that she’s in great danger. She asks if she can go home with him to hide for a while until she feels safe again. It doesn’t take long before he finds out that he’s in danger as well and because of the information he received from the woman he is forced to flee and go on a search to save both his own life and England.
