District 9 has impressed me. It’s a sci-fi movie with a very different style and story than your “standard” sci-fi movie. It shows the issues aliens are having, living in houses built from trash and not being accepted by anyone. The movie has been made for a relatively small budget (20 million), but looks great. The movie starts as a documentary, which is very original and it slowly morphs into a normal movie format.
Sharlto Copley plays his role to perfection. In interviews he has stated that all his lines were improvised, which is very impressive, especially when you know he had no ambition to act. Before this movie he hasn’t had any roles (except in Alive in Joburg on which this movie is based). The movie has action, suspense, some funny things and a lot of emotion. The movie has made a lasting impression on me and feels like a breath of fresh air in the old sci-fi genre.
Score: 10

Agreed this was a fantastic movie. I liked the political side to it that it didn’t ram politics down your throat like Avatar did which came out the same year. District 9 was movie of the decade. 🙂
Yeah, it is an amazing movie and way better than Avatar!
