Grown Ups (2010)

When I saw the picture above I thought that when a movie has so many well-known comedians, it must be amazing. So my expectations were very high when i watched it. Are Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, James Spade, Kevin James and Rob Schneider able to meet these expectations? Continue reading

Operation: Endgame (2010)

Operation Endgame is a very strange movie. I didn’t know a lot about it and when you start watching it, it seems to be a thriller about espionage, but it quickly becomes clear that it’s a very violent movie in which the members of the two opposing teams (shown above) attack each other with any “weapon” they can find arround the office (there are no guns as they are not allowed). So think about staple removers or paper cutters. This results in some very bloody scenes. Continue reading

Death at a Funeral (2010)

Death at a Funeral is a remake of the english version which was made in 2007. I have not seen the original, so I really can’t compare the two. I did see the trailer of the original and it shows the exact same jokes as the remake. The movie has a many big stars, like Chris Rock, Danny Glover, Martin Lawrence (who I think just isn’t funny), Zoe Saldana, Luke Wilson and Tracy Morgan. Continue reading

Repo Men (2010)

In the not too distant future it will be possible to live longer by buying artificial organs on credit. At least, that’s the vision of the future according to this movie. When you can’t make your payments in time, you will be visited by employees of the Union, the company that sells these organs.
Remy (Jude Law) and Jake (Forest Whitaker) are the repo men of the company and they will visit people to get the organs back. So when you see them it means you won’t be in the land of the living much longer as they take the organs right on the spot. Continue reading

The A-Team (2010)

In the eighties the A-team was a very popular television series, which i loved watching growing up. I had a B.A.Baracus action figure, the A-team fan with several Faces, Murdochs, Hannibals and B.A.’s and the complete series of collectible cards. I still remember them coming to the Netherlands and seeing it on TV. The airport was crowded. They really were extremely popular.
A while ago Justin Lee Collins, who makes a series called “Bring backā€¦” (in which he tries to find the cast members of a specific show or movie and get them together again), tried to get the A-team together again. Of course George Peppard has already passed, but he did manage to meet the rest of the cast and some even got together for drinks. It really brought back memories and it also showed how old the cast has become.
When remaking the series into a movie it was a logical step to recast the iconic characters, something Mr.T didn’t approve of. Continue reading

Date Night (2010)

Phil (Steve Carell) and Claire (Tina Fey) Foster have been married for many years. They work very hard and have two kids. After all these years the excitement of their marriage is starting to disappear. Even their weekly date night is not that special anymore as they go out to eat at the same restaurant and are home again before ten o’clock. When they hear that some close friends of theirs are splitting up, Phil decides to do something different on their date night. They head for Manhattan to eat at a very trendy restaurant, which Claire has been wanting to eat at for ages. When they arrive they find out that the restaurant is so popular that you a reservation has to be made months in advance. Phil does not want to go and decides to pretend he’s someone else when a name of another couple is called and no one responds. While they are enjoying the excellent food they are approached by two men who ask them to step outside as they need something from them. This is the start for a fun (and exciting) comedy Continue reading

Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

Hot Tub Time Machine is, like you’ll probably guess reading the title, not a very serious movie about time travel. It’s a comedy in which a couple of friends, who really haven’t been that close for a while, decide to back to the place they used to go to during the holidays when they were young. They hope to revive the good old times. Unfortunately the little village has lost its former glory and they decide to enjoy their time there, despite the initial disappointment. They all jump into the hot tub and enjoy the alcohol. When they wake up the next day, the village has transformed. Continue reading

Unthinkable (2010)

Terrorism has been the subject of many movies. Examples are Arlington Road, Fight Club, Die Hard, V for Vendetta, United 93, Der Baader Meinhof Complex or TV series like Sleeper Cell and 24. Unthinkable also is based on this subject, but instead of going the action movie route it chooses the format of a thriller. Continue reading

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)

Movies based on games usually aren’t well-known for their great quality, for example Super Mario Bros, Street Fighter and Max Payne. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is based on the 2003 game with the same name (de franchise started in 1989). If finished the game and thought it was a really great game. The Arabian nights atmosphere, the beautiful environments, the acrobatics (running along walls, making incredible jumps) and of course the possibility to rewind time all impressed.

Unfortunately the developer (Ubisoft) decided to change the whole feeling with the Warrior Within. The games just misses the magic that the Sands of Time had. It seemed to be based on a rock/gothic vibe and the focus on platforming was changed and fighting seemed to be more important. After that game I actually stopped playing the Prince of Persia games. However I was very interested in this movie as it was based on the Sands of Time. Does the movie manage to be just as good as the game or is it as disappointing as the Warrior Within? Continue reading

You don’t know Jack (2010)

The name Jack Kevorkian, also known as Doctor Death, is a very famous name. I did not know much about him though. HBO has made a movie about the work of this doctor. It gives insight into his way of thinking and why he did what he did. He helped at least 130 people (most terminally ill or without will to continue living because of their pain). Since 2002 euthanasia has been a legal process in the Netherlands, for which strict rules have to be followed before a patient can be helped with dying. In America however, it’s not legal. Kevorkian decided to try to make it legal to enable a grown up person to decide for himself if he wants to continue living or if he/she wants to die. Lees verder
