The Many Faces of… Angelina Jolie

This week’s star of “The Many Faces of…” is Angelina Jolie. After all the men the last couple of weeks I thought it was time to put the spotlight on an actress. At a very young age, when she was 7, she acted in Lookin’ to Get Out together with her father Jon Voight. It wasn’t until the second part of the nineties that she began to make a name for herself earning an Oscar in 1999 for best actress in a supporting role (Girl, Interrupted). Once she did the Tomb Raider movies she became well-known and has been very succesful ever since doing both big action movies (Salt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Wanted) as well as more serious roles (Changeling, A Mighty Heart). Salt (2010)

During the cold war (but also after it ended) Russians were usually the bad guys in movies.
When the threat of Russia had disappeared Hollywood started looking for a new enemy and ended up with terrorist, who usually came out of the middle east.
Salt succeeds to bring the Russian threat back in its setup. The timing of the movie in July seemed perfect with the news of the discovery and capture of a couple of russian spies who already lived in America for several years. This is also the idea behind Salt. The execution of the idea really manages to bring back the cold war feeling that existed in the eighties. Continue reading →

Wanted (2008)

Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) is an average guy, he works in an office and his relationship with his girlfriend is not good as he knows she’s cheating on him. He takes pills to stop his panic attacks and really is not looking forward to his future. When he meets Fox (Angelina Joeli), she tells him that his father was one of the best assassins for an organisation called the Fraternity, which is run by Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Continue reading →
