Chris Rock once had this part in one of his shows where he talked about rivalry between women and that no matter where they work they always turn everything into some Dynasty type thing, thinking that the other woman is trying to destroy them. Bridesmaids takes that thought, mixes it with a bit of The Hangover and adds some Sex and the City to end up with an interesting result. Continue reading

Midnight in Paris (2011)
Woody Allen has been making movies for a long time. He made his first movie, What’s up, Tiger Lily? in 1966 and 35 years later he is still going strong. I’m not always a big fan of his type of humour but I usually give his movies a try. Is Midnight in Paris worth watching? Continue reading
The Hangover Part II (2011)
The original Hangover was an unexpected hit in 2009. It told the story of a bachelor party gone wrong, where the groom couldn’t be found anymore and where no one remembered what happened the night before.
The crazy characters, like the socially awkward Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and gangster Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong), the unexpected cameo by Mike Tyson and the strange situations the men ended up in resulted in a movie which people remembered and told others about. To me The Hangover was one the best comedies that came out in the last couple of years. It’s no surprise that a sequel would be made, but can The Hangover Part II outdo the original or is it actually the moviegoer that has a hangover after seeing it? Continue reading
My Sassy Girl (2001)
The romantic comedy. It’s a genre where a lot of people (especially men) will have mixed feelings about. The target audience are usually women and the stories are very predictable, although there are always exceptions to this rule who manage to do extra things to make them stand out (for example Forgetting Sarah Marshall or When Harry Met Sally). Is My Sassy Girl anything special? Continue reading
Speed Scandle (2008)
Hyeon-su Nam (Cha Tae-Hyun) is a succesful radio DJ, with a lot of listeners who regularly tune in to hear his show. Besides playing music he regularly has conversations with callers about their relationships. One of them is telling him that she has some issues with her father who has become a grandfather as well and he advises her to meet up with him and make him a meal.
When he finally gets home a young woman, Jeong-nam Hwang (Bo-yeong Park) is waiting in front of his door together with her son Ki-dong Hwang (Wang Seok-Hyeon). He thinks that they have the wrong address, but Jeong-nam tells him that she is his daughter and that he’s a grandfather too. It’s a dark cloud in Hyeon-su Nam’s perfect life which he really can’t get rid of soon Continue reading
Micmacs (2009)
Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet has proved with Amélie (which currently is part of the IMBD top 250) that he’s able to create a dreamy, almost fairy tale like world with special characters. As a viewer you can’t help to be mesmerised with the way it makes you feel. It truly is a feel good movie (which I have recently watched again after watching this). Although different, Jeunet tries again to create such a world. Does he succeed? Continue reading
It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010)
Craig Gilner (Keir Gilchrist) is a 16-year-old kid who no longer enjoys his life. He feels the pressure of everyone around him expecting things which just become too much for him and he decides to climb a bridge to commit suicide. At the last moment he can’t go through with it and checks himself into a psychiatric unit for adults at his local hospital.
You might think how this can be “kind of funny” as this is a very serious subject. The psychiatric unit does have some very colourful, crazy personalities who make sure that you will laugh sometimes. Continue reading
The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008)
Nope, it’s not a typo, this movie is really called The Good The Bad The Weird. It’s got nothing to do with Sergio Leone and you won’t see Clint Eastwood acting in it. Despite this it is very clear that The Good, The Bad and The Ugly has had a big influence on this Korean Western. South Korea has a big movie industry and manages to deliver some great quality film like Old Boy. Is this western just as good? Continue reading
Zombieland (2009)
Horror movies. It’s one of the few genres I really don’t watch. I just don’t like to voluntarily be uncomfortable for an hour and a half watching gruesome stuff. It’s something I just don’t need and go out of my way to find. So it’s a genre which I just am not interested in.
So Zombieland was a movie I never planned on watching as the title was enough reason to stay clear from it. This change when a colleague told me that this really wasn’t a “scary” movie, but a comedy. Reluctantly I decide to give this film a chance. Continue reading
Casino Jack (2010)
Real life stories can succesfully be used for comedies. It’s something which I Love You Philip Morris has already proved. Casino Jack is a comedy which is based on real events, in this case the story of Jack Abramoff, a superlobbyist. As a viewer you are introduced in his world, in which there don’t seem to be any boundaries and in which presents and envelopes with money are just ways to do business. Jack Abramoff is constantly on the edge of what is allowed and makes some decisions which push him over it. Continue reading
