Dumb and Dumber (1994)

Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) are two friends who are both dreaming of starting their own worm shop. They try to raise enough money with their work to make their dream a reality. When one of Lloyds female customers “forgets” her briefcase he sees an opportunity to see her, Mary Swanson, again. He really likes her and convinces Harry to join him on a journey to Aspen. They are both extremely stupid which results in extremely funny situations. Continue reading

Four Lions (2010)

The reality of suicide bombing is something the world has gotten very familiar with unfortunately. Of course everyone has seen some images related to these bombings. Not a lot of movies are made about the subject (the only one I know about it is Paradise now). If you would have to make a movie about it yourself, you’d probably show the story of what motivates the bomber to do such a thing so you are able to maybe understand it better (for example a specific background that results in a nothing to lose attitude) You probably wouldn’t think of making a comedy about the subject, but that’s exactly what Four Lions is. The result is a really funny comedy. Continue reading

Mo’Money (1992)

Johnny Stewart (Damon Wayans) and Seymour Stewart (Marlon Wayans) are two brothers who make their living as con men. They make up a new hustle and find a new victim to get their money. Unfortunately they are not always able to stay out of jail.
When Johny meets Amber Evans (Stacey Dash) he is immediately in love with her. In order to find the way to her heart he decides to get a normal job at the office where Ambers works. Continue reading

Grown Ups (2010)

When I saw the picture above I thought that when a movie has so many well-known comedians, it must be amazing. So my expectations were very high when i watched it. Are Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, James Spade, Kevin James and Rob Schneider able to meet these expectations? Continue reading

Operation: Endgame (2010)

Operation Endgame is a very strange movie. I didn’t know a lot about it and when you start watching it, it seems to be a thriller about espionage, but it quickly becomes clear that it’s a very violent movie in which the members of the two opposing teams (shown above) attack each other with any “weapon” they can find arround the office (there are no guns as they are not allowed). So think about staple removers or paper cutters. This results in some very bloody scenes. Continue reading

A Town Called Panic (2009)

A town called panic really is a very weird animated movie. Cowboy, Indian and Horse already had their own TV-series, but now star in a feature-length movie, which is created by making use of stop motion. The characters are simple miniature toys and have been animated very roughly (quite different if you compare it with something like Wallace and Grommit). To be honest, it really does not matter how it’s been animated as the focus are the story and the humor. Both are so well done that it will keep you captivated for its 75 minute running time. Continue reading

The Seven Year Itch (1955)

This picture probably is one of the most iconic poses by Marilyn Monroe and was taken during the filming of the Seven Year Itch. I’ve seen this picture many times, but never knew it was from this movie. The Seven Year Itch is about Richard Sherman (Tome Ewell) who spends his summer alone in New York, like many other men apparently did in the fifties, while his wife and son are out-of-town to escape the heat. For many men this means an opportunity to go wild and many did. Although Richard is not planning anything he meets a woman who temporarily lives in an upstairs apartment. Will he be able to resist the temptation to make a move on her? Continue reading

Ghostbusters 2 (1989)

After the success and popularity of the original Ghostbusters, it was a logical choice to make a sequel. At the start of this second movie it’s clear that the popularity of the Ghostbusters is not at the same anymore when compared to the end of the first movie. There are no ghost sightings anymore and the Ghostbusters are forced to show up for kids parties to make a living. But even the kids think they are boring.
As this setup would result in a very dull film and this movie is about ghostbusters, it’s no surprise that there supernatural things start happening again, which allows the iconic quartet to get back to work. Continue reading

Death at a Funeral (2010)

Death at a Funeral is a remake of the english version which was made in 2007. I have not seen the original, so I really can’t compare the two. I did see the trailer of the original and it shows the exact same jokes as the remake. The movie has a many big stars, like Chris Rock, Danny Glover, Martin Lawrence (who I think just isn’t funny), Zoe Saldana, Luke Wilson and Tracy Morgan. Continue reading

The A-Team (2010)

In the eighties the A-team was a very popular television series, which i loved watching growing up. I had a B.A.Baracus action figure, the A-team fan with several Faces, Murdochs, Hannibals and B.A.’s and the complete series of collectible cards. I still remember them coming to the Netherlands and seeing it on TV. The airport was crowded. They really were extremely popular.
A while ago Justin Lee Collins, who makes a series called “Bring backā€¦” (in which he tries to find the cast members of a specific show or movie and get them together again), tried to get the A-team together again. Of course George Peppard has already passed, but he did manage to meet the rest of the cast and some even got together for drinks. It really brought back memories and it also showed how old the cast has become.
When remaking the series into a movie it was a logical step to recast the iconic characters, something Mr.T didn’t approve of. Continue reading
