As you probably know the horror genre is not something I watch a lot. I therefore have not seen many horror classics and to be honest I never had the feeling I was missing out on much. Of course there are exceptions, but in general I simply do not enjoy to be frightened. When I received a review copy of Outpost: Rise of the Spetsnaz I was not jumping for joy to watch it. A horror movie with a nazi monster on the cover did not seem that appealing and my expectations for this movie were extremely low. The DVD therefore stayed on the shelf for a while, but there came a moment when the words “Duty calls” came to mind. I reluctantly placed the DVD in the player and feared the worst. That fear seemed invalid though. Continue reading

Child’s Play (1988)
The more I watch horror movies, the more I realise that although it is not my favorite genre, that I can enjoy quite a lot of movies. As long as things do not head into the direction of gruesome or torture I can watch and appreciate quite a few of the horror classics. Although Child’s Play might not be considered a classic by everyone it is a movie I liked returning to, having last seen it in my teenage years. The movie has spawned many sequels (of which I think have only seen one), but, as is usually the case, the original is the best one Continue reading
Cabin in the Woods (2012)
If you’ve been reading my blog for a longer time, you know that I’m not too fond on watching horror. I wasn’t planning on watching this movie, until I saw it appearing in various lists bloggers were writing about the best movies they watched in the first half of the year. Knowing that Joss Whedon was involved I decided to give it a chance. Continue reading
The Thing (1982)
Antarctica, a cold and desolate place, which is only visited by researchers and the occasional tourist. In other words a perfect setting for a science fiction/horror movie as there isn’t any place you can hide, except for the camp you are living in. You also know that you will have to solve all your issues yourself as there is nobody coming soon to rescue you. Add to that, that you actually don’t know if the people around you are still human and you have the perfect ingredients for a tense situation where you don’t know who you can trust. Continue reading
Zombieland (2009)
Horror movies. It’s one of the few genres I really don’t watch. I just don’t like to voluntarily be uncomfortable for an hour and a half watching gruesome stuff. It’s something I just don’t need and go out of my way to find. So it’s a genre which I just am not interested in.
So Zombieland was a movie I never planned on watching as the title was enough reason to stay clear from it. This change when a colleague told me that this really wasn’t a “scary” movie, but a comedy. Reluctantly I decide to give this film a chance. Continue reading
