The original title of this Korean movie is Madeo, which can be translated into two meanings, both mother and murder are possible as the characters in the language are the same. Hye-ja Kim stars in this movie, in which her son Yoon Do-joon (Bin Won) is being suspected of a crime. As Yoon Do-joon has some mental issues, it’s hard for her to find out if he really has committed the crime. As a mother she’s willing to do anything to find out the truth and get her son out of jail. The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008)
Nope, it’s not a typo, this movie is really called The Good The Bad The Weird. It’s got nothing to do with Sergio Leone and you won’t see Clint Eastwood acting in it. Despite this it is very clear that The Good, The Bad and The Ugly has had a big influence on this Korean Western. South Korea has a big movie industry and manages to deliver some great quality film like Old Boy. Is this western just as good? Continue reading
Cyrus (2010)
A while ago Anomolous Material had an article about actors that are better at doing supporting roles instead of playing the main part in a movie. One of the actors that was on the list was John C. Reilly and I agree with his inclusion on the list. He was funny in Talladega Nights and Step Brothers, but the reason for it was because of the rest of the cast. In Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, which spoofed Walk the Line, he starred and I was really disappointed by that film as it just wasn’t funny. With Cyrus he gets another chance to show he has the star power to pull it off. Does he manage to do it or does this movie show he just can’t? Continue reading
A Town Called Panic (2009)
A town called panic really is a very weird animated movie. Cowboy, Indian and Horse already had their own TV-series, but now star in a feature-length movie, which is created by making use of stop motion. The characters are simple miniature toys and have been animated very roughly (quite different if you compare it with something like Wallace and Grommit). To be honest, it really does not matter how it’s been animated as the focus are the story and the humor. Both are so well done that it will keep you captivated for its 75 minute running time. Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy (2009)
I’m a big fan of stand up comedians and regularly visit comedy nights in the local theaters. I also like to watch the big American comedians and there are quite a lot i still remember lines from (for example Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and Eddie Murphy). Why we laugh gives an insight into this branch of entertainment. Continue reading
