Frank McCloud (Humphrey Bogart) is a war veteran who travels to Key Largo to honor a friend of his who died during the war. He visits those left behind (a father and his daughter played by Lionel Barrymore and Lauren Bacall), who run a hotel in this far corner of Florida.
Despite the quiet season no rooms are said to be available and it doesn’t take long for Frank and the rest of the occupants of the hotel to be stuck as a result of a tropical storm. It turns out it is not the only threat they are facing. Continue reading

How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)
Loco Dempsey (Betty Grable), Pola Debevoise (Marilyn Monroe) and Schatze Page (Lauren Bacall) are three single ladies. They all do some modelling work to at least have a little bit of money, but it’s not their most important job. The title of the movie says it all, trying to hook up with a millionaire and marrying them so they can enjoy their wealth. To cover their motives they rent an expensive apartment (that they only can pay by slowly selling all the stuff in the apartment). The search for a man is proving more difficult than they expect. The Big Sleep (1946) – Is it really that good?
The Big Sleep is a movie which you’ll see in many “best movie” lists, it’s also present in the IMDB top 250. So this fact was reason enough for me to watch it. Is this movie, with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and directed by Howard Hawks, really as good or should it be removed from the lists? Continue reading
