If you would do a search on IMDB for director Jeff Nichols you’d find out that he only has five movies to his name. You might also think it means he’s not een experienced person, but take a little bit more time to look at the titles and you’ll soon realize that he’s someone who has managed to impress in a very short time with films like Mud and Take Shelter. In those movie the always impressive Michael Shannon played a role, which is also the case for his latest, Midnight Special, where the two have hooked up again. The Iceman (2013)
I remember that a some years ago I first heard the story of Richard Kuklinski, a hitman for the mafia who has admitted to have killed over 100 people. He was interviewed and this was a man who talked about his killings without showing much emotion. He sometimes made strange movements with his jaw while talking, but besides that you’d think he was just talking about the weather. He got his name not because of his lack of emotions (even though that also fits him nicely), but because he sometimes froze his victims in order to make it impossible for the coroner to discover the real-time of death. Personally I prefer not watching trailers or reading much about upcoming movies to keep my expectations low and really don’t mind heading to the cinema by myself.
When it comes to Premium Rush I didn’t know much, except that it was about bikers and that Joseph-Gordon Levitt was starring in it. So did I like it or was I disappointed by it? Continue reading
13 (2010)

I try to do this as much as possible, because you usually won’t have high expectations and won’t be disappointed as quickly. This is also the reason I usually skip most trailers as well, unless it is for an action movie where the story is not as important.
I hardly knew anything about 13, expect that Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke were in it. For me those names are enough reason to see a movie, so I was looking forward to seeing it and really was not disappointed. I will try to tell as little as I can about the story. Continue reading
