Despite knowing that this was a movie not a lot of people seemed to like (one look at Rotten Tomatoes makes that clear) I still was curious to see if this would be a movie I’d enjoy. I haven’t seen The Fall yet (but the DVD is waiting on my “to watch” stack and remembering that The Cell (which I saw while on holiday in Florida) was visually striking I wanted to find out if director Tarsem Singh managed to do the same with this movie. Moviestars in commercials: Mickey Rourke
Although moviestars make good money doing their movies they sometimes get offered roles in commercials. Many moviestars don’t appear in commercials in the US, but do appear outside of it. In this series I will look at one actor or actress and select a couple of their funny commercials.
With the second entry in this series I will look into some of the commercials Mickey Rourke has done. What’s your favorite?

Thursday (1998)
Years ago there was a movie shop that imported DVDs, which I visited regularly. Every week they mailed a newsletter which had various movie lists and interesting reviews of movies I never heard of.
One of the movies they talked about was Thursday, which was hard to get as it was only available by importing it from Germany. Because the staff had written raving reviews I decided to order this movie. As things usually go when I buy a movie it might take a while before I actually watch them. In this particular case it took years before I finally got around to seeing it. Is it a fine wine that I had left to ripen or is it a waste of time? Continue reading
13 (2010)
Sometimes a movie can have more impact on you if you don’t know anything about it. I try to do this as much as possible, because you usually won’t have high expectations and won’t be disappointed as quickly. This is also the reason I usually skip most trailers as well, unless it is for an action movie where the story is not as important.
I hardly knew anything about 13, expect that Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke were in it. For me those names are enough reason to see a movie, so I was looking forward to seeing it and really was not disappointed. I will try to tell as little as I can about the story. Continue reading
The Expendables (2010)
Action heroes. Tough guys that are able to defeat whole armies without any help, drive fast cars and always have beautiful women around them. The eighties and beginning of the nineties have produced a lot of action movies and a lot of stars. I grew up watching a lot of Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone movies. Besides that I loved the martial arts movies starring Jean-Claude van Damme, Steven Seagal and Eric Roberts (Best of the Best). The were all “high adrenaline” movies which usually didn’t have great stories, but they made up for it with lots of action scenes. Over the years these type of movies have become less popular and there don’t seem to be as many of them made anymore. Continue reading
Iron Man 2 (2010)
The first Iron Man film was a very good superhero movie (which i gave an 8 at the time). It was a good movie that showed the origins of Iron man. Now that we know how he came to be, part 2 can crank up the action. Does Iron Man how to fly to great highs again or is there a malfunction in the suit that makes the movie crash horribly? Continue reading
