Morgan Freeman was born on the 1st of June 1937 in Memphis Tennessee. At age nine he acted in a school play and at age 12 he won a drama competition. He graduated in 1955 and decided to work as a radar technician in the United States Air Force. He took acting and dancing lessons at the beginning of the sixties. He was a transcript clerk at Los Angeles City College. He moved to New York and worked as a dancer en was part of the Opera Ring musical theater group. He started acting more and had a role in the film The Pawnbroker in 1965. He acted on stage on Broadway. While appearing on stage he also started acting in TV shows and movies in supporting roles. With Driving Miss Daisy he became well-known to a wider audience. He has since acted in a big number of movies and played both God and the president of America twice. His performance in Million Dollar Baby earned him and Oscar. Continue reading

Last Vegas (2013)
Star Power is very important to a lot of Hollywood movies. Famous names usually guarantee a lot of people wanting to head to the cinema. Looking at Last Vegas it has heaps of them: Morgan Freeman, Robert de Niro, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline. These men are all Oscar winners, so no reason to doubt their acting abilities. As these men are all getting older it is not a strange choice to make a comedy which makes fun of their age. Other older actors have done the same in the past (examples are Al Pacino and Christopher Walken in Stand Up Guys, but also the fatehr of Michael Douglas did this in Tough Guys in 1986). Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
As a man you sometimes need to see a movie which feeds your primal instincts. A movie which is raw and visceral and packs a punch. Movies like Rambo and The Raid satisfy that need and show that you don’t need a lot of background story to do so. Olympus Has Fallen’s Rambo is Mike Banning, played by Gerard Butler. He is a former bodyguard of the president, who had to stop his service because something which happened in the past. The setting here is the White House and the bad guy is current Hollywood favorite, North Korea. Continue reading
Red (2010)
Despite the lakes of adrenaline action stars do get old eventually. This doesn’t prevent them from still making action movies though as we already saw earlier this year with The Expendables. Bruce Willis (55) already played a small part in it, but in action comedy Red he’s the star. The rest of the actors are not known for action movies, but Morgan Freeman (73!), John Malkovich (56) and Helen Mirren (65) show that they know how to handle weapons. Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) is an average guy, he works in an office and his relationship with his girlfriend is not good as he knows she’s cheating on him. He takes pills to stop his panic attacks and really is not looking forward to his future. When he meets Fox (Angelina Joeli), she tells him that his father was one of the best assassins for an organisation called the Fraternity, which is run by Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Continue reading
