The Monday Question: Improve!

Another Monday, another question. This time it’s not really about the movies, but the way we as bloggers talk about it on our blogs. I’ve been doing this for over two years and still enjoy it a lot. I love seeing new comments and discovering new blogs. When it comes to my own blog I’m always looking for ways to improve it and I’m never completely statisfied, always trying to think of new content and other things I could make better.

This week’s question:
If you had all the time in the world, what would you change to your blog to improve it? Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Daniel Craig

With the recent release of Skyfall I thought it would be a nice moment to look at the career of Daniel Craig and the many roles he has played through the years. Trailer vs. Movie: Skyfall

It’s been a while since I started a new series and recently got the idea for this one. As you know trailers I don’t watch trailers at all. The reason I do so is because I think they give away too much information and therefore you run the risk of having expectations which are too high and of not being surprised when specific events happen. In “Trailer vs. Movie” I check out the trailer of a movie after I’ve watched the movie to find out how much the trailer gave away. The first trailer/movie to get this treatment is for Skyfall, the new James Bond movie (my review of the movie can be found here)

Obviously this will mean I will go into spoilers, so if you have not seen the movie don’t read any further. Continue reading

Skyfall (2012)

Growing up I remember watching some of the Bond movies starring various actors playing the iconic character. I never really fell in love with this franchise however as I always had the feeling that they offered the same type of story time and time again. Rinse and repeat until it felt silly (which probably was because of the Roger Moore movies).

The franchise needed some new blood and made relevant again and with Daniel Craig and Casino Royale it was pushed into Bourne territory. I really liked the movie, but felt disappointed again after seeing Quantum of Solace. Although I wasn’t really excited about this new installement in the adventures of Bond I did decide to check it out with the hopes it would offer that which I loved in Casino Royale. The Monday Question: Darkness!

When we visit the cinema we look forward to the experience, sitting in a big room with lots of people experiencing the light of images bigger than life hitting our eyes and together sharing and (hopefully) enjoying the experience with others. When the lights go out you know that you are going to see something you were curious about, looking forward to. Going to the cinema is a special experience. But what if you watch a movie at home? You will agree the experience is very different and it made me wonder about something:

When you watch a movie at home do you turn off the lights? Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942 in Chicago. When he was growing up he was an active boy scout and earned the rank of Life Scout, which is the second-highest one. In high school he did the first student broadcast on the school’s radio station and also was a sportscaster. In 1960 he graduated and in college he took drama and became interested in acting. He moved to L.A. in 1964 to try to get a job doing voice-overs, but didn’t manage to get it. He signed up for a contract with Columbia Pictures earning $150 a week and he made very small appearances in movies. He also did some TV shows for Universal. Since his career wasn’t really taking off he decided to become a carpenter and became stagehand for The Doors and built a recording studio for Sérgio Mendes.

He eventually was hired to build cabinets at the home of George Lucas, who gave him a supporting role in American Graffiti. Francis Ford Coppola hired him to expand his office and also gave him roles in The Conversation and Apocalypse Now. His big breakthrough came when he was cast as Han Solo in Star Wars and since then he has appeared in a lot of movies including the Indiana Jones series, Blade Runner, Presumed Innocent, Patriot Games and The Fugitive. Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)

What would you think if you’d see the following ad?

It’s an intriguing one, but the picture would probably make you laugh and think nothing more of it. It does make you wonder though if this guy really was able to time travel. There have been various stories of supposed time travel, but of course nothing which could be proved. This movie is based on this ad and fantasizes what could happen if you’d respond to it.
