Born in 1981, she had her first unforgettable role at age 13 in Léon. Superhero movies, I have to admit I am never really looking forward to any of them although I do watch almost all of them. When I grew up I didn´t read much comics (I stuck to Donald Duck and ´Suske en Wiske´) not having any connection with the characters probably is a good thing as you won´t notice that things are different from the comics. I didn´t think Thor would be a very interesting movie, but when a colleague of mine, who is a big comic book fan, told me how much he enjoyed watching it I had to give this one a chance as well. As it’s the last day of the year I think there is no better way to end it by reviewing my movie of the year by letting it skip the queue of upcoming reviews. With Black Swan I had the same feeling as I had with The Social Network. I was wondering how a movie about a specific subject, in this case ballet, could be interesting. If you check out the dance movies which came out lately you will notice that most of them are targeting a young audience with the drama in those films being equal to the levels you see in your average soap opera. As I try to never watch movie trailers and try to know as little as I can about films in advance, I was in for a big, but very pleasant, surprise. Continue reading
Zach Braff has written, directed and stars in this movie about Andrew Largeman, a man who returns to his home town after many years to attend the funeral of his mother. He almost has no contact with his father anymore, so their relationship is almost nonexistent. While he’s back he meets some of his friends he knew when he was a kid. They all think that he has become a successful actor in Hollywood, but reality is a bit different.
Since he was young his father prescribed him medicines and because of this he feels he hasn’t really lived as he experienced it all in a state where he was numb to it all.
He decides to stop taking them and meet up with another doctor to discuss the effect this might have. While he’s waiting for his appointment he meets Sam (Natalie Portman) who says she is waiting for a friend. It doesn’t take long for Andrew to find out she’s also there because of psychological issues (she’s a big liar). He gives here a ride home and the two start seeing more and more of each other. Luc Besson is one of France’s most famous directors. He’s responsible for a lot of well-known movies like the Taxi, Transporter and Banlieu 13 series, he wrote the story for From Paris with Love and the Fifth Element. When he had to wait for Bruce Willis (he was doing another movie) to start filming the Fifth Element, he decided to write a script, which resulted in Léon, a story about an assassin who unexpectedly ends up having to take care of a young girl.
