John Goodman was born on June 20, 1952 in St. Louis, Missori. Het went to Affton High School and played football. He also appeared on stage. He received a football scholarship and went to Missouri State University. He joined the drama program and when he had to end his football career because of an injury he wanted to become a professional actor. He moved to New York, but had difficulties finding acting roles. He stuck with it though and eventually got work in plays, commercials and voiceovers. His first movie was a B-movie called Jailbait Babysitter in 1977. He started appearing in TV-shows as well and slowly rose to fame. He would work with Coen Brothers on several movies, his first being Raising Arizona. His role in the sitcom Roseanne is probably his most famous role, playing Dan Conner. According to IMDB he currently has appeared in an impressive 138 productions. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Sam Rockwell
Sam Rockwell was born on November 5, 1968 in San Mateo, California. He was raised by his father after his parents divorced. At the age of 10 he made his stage debut in a comedy sketch where he played Humphrey Bogart. Although he went to the San Francisco School of the Arts he dropped out. He went to an alternative high school which helped him in being interested in acting. He acted in an independent film and after graduating moved to New York. His first film role was in Clownhouse (1989). He appeared in small roles on TV Shows (NYPD BLUE, Law & Order) and movies (Last Exit to Brooklyn, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). He still struggled making ends meet, but slowly started becoming better known. He acted in Galaxy Quest, A Midsumer Night’s Dream and Charlie’s Angels. His role in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Matchstick men further helped him cement a place in Hollywood. Jeremy Renner was born in Modesto, California on January 7, 1971. His first movie was in National Lampoon’s Senior Trip in 1995. He also was a guest on television shows like Deadly Games Strange Luck and Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane, The Net and Angel. He did not make enough with these roles so he also worked as makeup artist. He started making waves in 2002 when he starred in the film Dahmer. He aappeared in other movies like S.W.A.T., A Little Trip to Heaven and Neo Ned. Het had a supporting role in The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. His breakthrough came when he starred in The Hurt Locker. Oliva Wilde was born on March 10, 1984 in New York City. Both her parents are journalists, something which she said has shaped her in being very critical and analytical. Since she was two she wanted to become an actress. She studied acting at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin, Ireland. She had her first acting role in 1995, but it wasn’t until 2003 that she started acting more appearing in TV shows like Skin and The O.C. Sandra Bullock was born on July 26, 1964 in Arlington Virginia. Her mother sung opera and she regularly toured with her in Europe. She studied ballet and vocal arts and even sang parts in her mother’s productions. She attende Washington-Lee High School and was a cheerleader and performed in high school plays. In university she studied drama and she got her degree in 1986. She moved to Manhattan to start auditioning and take acting classes. She got a part in an Off-Broadway play and this landed her a role in a TV movie called Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman. She played a lot of small roles in various independent films and starred in the TV series Working Girl. Her first big supporting role was in Demolition Man, but it wasn’t until her role in Speed that she managed to really become succesful. She appeared in movies like While You Were Sleeping, The Net, A Time to Kill, Miss Congeniality, Two Weeks Notice, Crash and The Proposal. She earned an Oscar for her role in The Blind Side. The Many Faces of… Kevin Spacey
I started watching House of Cards this week (which I have to say is an awesome show) and I noticed that I hadn’t featured Kevin Spacey in this series yet. Time to look at the many roles in his career.
Kevin Spacey was born on July 26, 1959 in South Orange, New Jersey. He attended Northridge Military Academy. When he wen to Chatsworth High he acted in a stage production of The Sound of Music where he played Captain Georg von Trapp.He tried his hand at being a stand-up comedian, but also studied drama. He started his professional career in plays. During one of these plays he worked with Jack Lemmon, who became a mentor to him. He made the step into movies and became very successful. He earned an Oscar for his supporting role in The Usual Suspects in 1996 and in 2000 he picked up a second statue for his leading role in American Beauty. Chris Hemsworth was born on August 11, 1983 in Melbourne, Australia. He liked to surf and attended the Heathmont Secondary College. After this he started appearing in small roles in Australian TV shows. He appeared in the soap opera Home and Away and after a few years moved to the US to pursue an acting career there. Jessica Biel was born on March 3rd, 1982 in Ely, Minnesota. While growing up her parents moved frequently and finally settled in Boulder, Colorado where she went to Fairview High School. She was into sports and played soccer and did gymnastics. She was trained to be a vocalist. At age twelve she signed up with the Judith Fontaine Modeling & Talent Agency and modeled for various advertisements, inlcuding Pringles and Dulux Paint. Her first movies were It’s a Digital World in 1994 and Ulee’s Gold in 1997. Het first lead role was in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Sharon Stone was born on March 10, 1958 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. She has a degree in creative writing and fine arts. As she was growing up she did modeling and became Miss Crawford County. In 1977 she moved to New Jersey and started working for the Ford Modeling Agency in New York. She wanted to become an actress and had her first role in Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories as an extra. She appeared in various B-movies and had her big break in Total Recall as the wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character. Her real breakthrough came when she played Catherine Tramell in Paul Verhoeven’s Basic Instinct. She has since appeared in a big number of movies including Sliver, The Specialist, The Quick and the Dead, Antz, Casino, Catwoman, Broken Flowers, Alpha Dog and many others. The Many Faces of… George Clooney
George Clooney was born on May 6, 1961 in Kentucky. He went to the Blessed Sacrament School in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. In Ohio he attended St. Michael’s School in Columbus, and St. Susanna School in Mason. In middle school he had a condition which partially paralyzed his face. After a year this went away. When his parents moved to Augusta, Kentucky, he went to Augusta High School. He was a good student with high grades and played baseball and basketball. He even tried to become part of the Cincinnati Reds but wasn’t hired. He attended Northern Kentucky University and chose Broadcast Journalism. In 1978 he landed his first role in the TV series Centennial. His first big role was in a sitcom called E/R (which isn’t the same as the show which really made him famous) and had roles in Golden Girls and Roseanne. When he got a role in ER he really had his big break and received various nominations for the role. His first movie role was together with Quentin Tarantino in From Dusk Till Dawn. He has since managed to build an impressive career starring in movies like Out of Sight, Three Kings, O Brother Where Art Thou?, The Perfect Storm and Ocean’s Eleven. He made his directorial debut with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Other movies he starred in were The Men Who Stare at Goats, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Up in the Air and The Descendants among many others. He won two Oscars. Continue reading
