James Franco was born on April 19, 1978 in Palo Alto, California. He went to Palo Alto High School and appeared in several plays. During high school he got into trouble with the law for various things like graffiti and shoplifting and briefly was a ward of the state, looking at juvenile hall. He managed to change and went to university in California where he majored in English. He decided to drop out after his freshman year to pursue an acting career. He took lessons with Robert Cearnegie at the Playhouse West. His first appearance on a screen was in a Pizza Hut commercial, but he soon acted in several TV shows like Pacific Blue, 1973, To Serve and Protect and Freaks and Geeks. His first movie role was in Never Been Kissed and played James Dean in the James Dean TV movie for which he got nominations for a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award. His next role would introduce him to a world wide audience, playing Harry Osborn in Spider-Man. Looking at his filmography you can say he is a very hard working actor, acting since 1997, with 84 titles to his name. These include City by the Sea, Tristan + Isolde, Flyboys, Pineapple Express, Milk, Eat Pray Love, 127 Hours, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Spring Breakers and Oz the Great and Powerful. The Many Faces of… Hilary Swank
Hilary Swank was born on July 30th, 1974 in Lincoln, Nebraska. As she was growing up she did a lot of sports and went to the Junior Olympics as part of the swimming team. She also did gymnastics. Her first acting was in a school play version of The Jungle Book and liked it so much she kept active in theater. At age 15 she moved to Los Angeles with her mother to pursue an acting career. She appeared in several TV shows, including Harry and the Hendersons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Growing Pains, Bevely Hills 90210 and Van Wilder. Her first leading role in a movie was in The Next Karate Kid. She has since appeared in many movies, including 11:14, The Core, The Black Dahlia, Freedom Writer, P.S. Cooper was born on January 5, 1975 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When he finished his studies with a BA in English. His first role was in Sex and the City, after which he also presented Globetrekker and appeared in the TV show Alias. His first movie role was in Wet Hot American Summer. He since has starred in both romantic comedies as well as other type of movies. Movies he was part of include The Hangover, Silver Linings Playbook, He’s Not That Into You, Limitless and The A-Team. The Many Faces of… Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel was born on January 17, 1980 in Los Angeles. Her parents are both active in cinema (her father is a cinematogerpher and director, her mother an actress). As she grew up she often travelled together with her father for the movies he was working on. It was something she didn’t like. She went to Crossroads School for Art & Sciences (college preparatory school). She got to know Kate Hudson and Jake Gyllenhaal, who also attended. She wanted to become a singer, which she did a lot in high school and wanted to be in the theatre. She attended Northwestern University, but decided to drop out after only seven months to pursue her acting career.
Her first appearance was on the TV show Veronica’s Closet in 1998 and her first movie was Mumford. She has since been in movies like Almost Famous, Elf, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Bridge to Terabithia, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Happening and (500) Days of Summer. The Many Faces of… Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson was born on 7 June 1952 in Northern Ireland. When he was growing up he started boxing at the age of nine and eventually became an amateur senior boxing champion. His acting started when he was given the lead role in a school play at age eleven. He liked it and kept acting. He eventually went to Queen’s University Belfast to study physics and computer science, but left and worked for the Guinness Brewery.
He joined a theater in 1976 and had his first movie role in 1977 in Pilgrim’s Progress. He moved to Hollywood in 1987 where he appeared in Suspect. His first big starring role was in Darkman, he since appeared in movies which had a lot of success like Schindler’s List, The Phantom Menace, Taken and the Batman movies. Continue reading
The Many Faces of… John Malkovich
Although it is documentary week I know a lot of people look forward to this weekly Friday post, so of course there is a new “The Many Faces of…”.
This week’s choice is John Malkovich, who has an impressive list of movies to his name. Not only is he an actor, but he’s also producer, director and fashion designer with his label Technobohemian. He never won an Oscar, but was nominated twice for his roles in Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire. He has Croatian grandparents and a mother of Scottish and German ancestry and has played quite a few roles in different languages. He is fluent in French (he lived there for 10 years).
He’s a great actor who always manages to stand out in the movies he is in as he has a very strong screen presence. Click here to view his many roles

Born in 1981, she had her first unforgettable role at age 13 in Léon.
