Dominic (Vin Diesel) and his crew are back and on the run from the authorities (in the form of Dwayne Johnson). Stuck in Rio de Janeiro with no money there is only one way to earn something and this is by doing a car related heist. Unfortunately not everything goes as planned and the crew make a plan which will allow them to escape the authorities and also get rid of one of Rio’s biggest drug bosses. Continue reading

F for Fake (1972)
What is the value of art and who decides what something is worth? Those are questions Exit Through the Gift Shop posed last year. These questions are not new however as Orson Welles (who directed Citizen Kane) asked these same questions in this 1972 documentary.
He looks at the subject differently though as he chooses to focus on a master forger and a con man. Welles, who also shows up several times, tries to make those watching to think about what’s real and what’s fake. Continue reading
The Mechanic (2011)
Just like Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham is an action star whose movies I’ll always try watch. Most of them are not masterpieces, but his cold stare, cool image and his fighting techniques make most of his films very enjoyable. In the Mechanic he’s one of the best assassins in the world. He lives alone, works alone and his only person he could call a friend is the person that gives him his assignments.
When he’s forced to train someone else (Steve McKenna, played by Ben Foster) who has a connection with one of his victims, things get more complicated. It’s a situation he has to handle with a lot of care.
Mother (2009)
The original title of this Korean movie is Madeo, which can be translated into two meanings, both mother and murder are possible as the characters in the language are the same. Hye-ja Kim stars in this movie, in which her son Yoon Do-joon (Bin Won) is being suspected of a crime. As Yoon Do-joon has some mental issues, it’s hard for her to find out if he really has committed the crime. As a mother she’s willing to do anything to find out the truth and get her son out of jail. Continue reading
The Oath (2010)
Two Men. Bound to Al-Qaeda. Divided by Fate.
This is the tagline that is used for this documentary about two men that both had ties to Al-Qaeda. Salim Hamdan has been locked up in Guantanomo Bay after being captured in Afghanistan. He was Osama Bin Laden’s driver. The other man is Abu Jandal, who was Bin Laden’s bodyguard. The latter one is now a taxi driver in Yemen. Continue reading
Rabbit Hole (2010)
The loss of someone you love can have a lot of impact on someone’s life. It’s also something everyone responds differently to. Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) have lost their son and do their best to try to move on with their lives, which isn’t easy. There is a lot of friction between the two and they can hardly talk about it with each other.
The have joined a therapy group to listen what other parents are doing that have gone through the same thing, but even this is hard for Becca. She really can’t handle it. Continue reading
Garden State (2004)
Zach Braff has written, directed and stars in this movie about Andrew Largeman, a man who returns to his home town after many years to attend the funeral of his mother. He almost has no contact with his father anymore, so their relationship is almost nonexistent. While he’s back he meets some of his friends he knew when he was a kid. They all think that he has become a successful actor in Hollywood, but reality is a bit different.
Since he was young his father prescribed him medicines and because of this he feels he hasn’t really lived as he experienced it all in a state where he was numb to it all.
He decides to stop taking them and meet up with another doctor to discuss the effect this might have. While he’s waiting for his appointment he meets Sam (Natalie Portman) who says she is waiting for a friend. It doesn’t take long for Andrew to find out she’s also there because of psychological issues (she’s a big liar). He gives here a ride home and the two start seeing more and more of each other. Due Date (2010)
Visiting a movie theatre is not what is used to be. There once was a time where you could just buy a ticket, get your refreshments and wait for the doors to open, no more. It seems that visiting a cinema needs to be an “experience”. At least that was what I found out when visiting to see this movie.
The theatre I go to (called Pathé) has special Ladies nights, which I was not aware of. It’s quite succesful as most of the people walking around were actually women. To cater to these women they were selling clothing, makeup etcetera and a lot of women were buying. It was something I was not prepared for. After finally managing to get through the crowd it was time to watch Due Date, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. Continue reading
