The Many Faces of… Michael Fassbender

overview roles Michael Fassbender movies Prometheus

Despite all the love/hate Prometheus is getting, most reviewers agree on one thing: Michael Fassbender was awesome in it. Enough reason for me to shine a light on his career in this new installment of “The Many Faces of…”.

Fassbender was born in Heidelberg, Germany (his father is German, his mother Irish). He speaks German fluently. His parents moved to Ireland when he was 2 where his father was a chef. Fassbender served as an altar boy and had the keys to the church. He had a fascination with Star Wars and collected the toys when growing up.

He attended St. Brendan’s College. When he was 17 he still didn’t know what he wanted to do. He thought about being a guitarist, an architect or a journalist, but ended up acting. He was in a school play as one of Cinderella’s stepsisters. He followed some drama classes and got into contact with the guy running it who started a company where he acted. He later was inspired by Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and performed in a stage version of it. He was recommended to the Drama Centre London. After finishing it he went on tour with the Oxford Stage Company.

His first work on TV was in Hearts and Bones and the Spielberg produced Band of Brothers series. He kept doing a lot of TV shows and slowly started doing movies as well. He appeared in 300, starred in Hunger, X-Men and worked with Tarantino in Inglourious Basterds and has shown he’s a very talented actor. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Jason Statham

Another Friday and if you are a regular visitor you know what that means, a new installment in “The Many Faces of…”. This week’s choice is an actor who I will watch in almost any movie he is in. He has only been acting since 1998, but already has 35 titles to his name (3 in production).

Statham was born in 1967 in Shirebrook, UK and grew up with football player Vinnie Jones and played for his school. Unlike other actors and actresses that have appeared here he did not seem to act from a young age. He actually had a passion for diving. He worked so hard on it that he was part of the national team for 12 years. Because that didn’t earn much he worked the street corners selling perfume and jewelry. He left his high diving career behind him and became a model for French Connection. He came into contact with Guy Ritchie who cast him in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and through the years he has become known as an action star, appearing in the Transporter and Crank series and among action star giants like Stallone and Jet Li. The Many Faces of… Anne Hathaway

With everyone looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises I thought it would be a good idea to look at the movies catwoman Anne Hathaway has been in. You can already look at the ones Christian Bale and Tom Hardy did.

Anne Hathaway was born in 1982 in New York. In school she played in several plays and she finally was admitted in The Barrow Group Theater Company’s acting program as the first teenager to do so. She started out in Disney movies and earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Rachel Getting Married. She currently has 27 movie and TV credits to her name. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Julia Roberts

For this week installment I’ve picked actress Julia Roberts. She was born in 1967. Her parents acted as well and many of her relatives have made a career in acting too (for example her brother Eric Roberts). When she was growing up she wanted to become a veterinarian, but after graduating from high school she did pursue a career in acting. She appeared in some smaller movies and televsion series (she did an episode of Miami Vice for example), but her breakthrough role was opposite of Richard Gere in Pretty Woman and has appeared in a lot of movies since. She won an Oscar for her role in Erin Brockovich. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Frances McDormand

With the Best Actresses Relay race on its way I thought it would be a good idea to pick one of the chosen actresses for this week’s installment. Frances McDormand was born in 1957 in Chicago and was adopted by a Canadian couple and she moved around a lot with her parents. When she went to school she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theater. Her first movie role was in the Coen brother movie Blood Simple. Besides movies, she also appeared on TV, for example in the police show Hill Street Blues. She was nominated for an Oscar four times and received the statue for her role in Fargo. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Naomi Watts

roles overview Naomi Watts

Another Friday, another installment of “The Many Faces of…”, this week with actress Naomi Watts. She grew up in the UK and moved to Australia at the age of 14, together with her mother and brother. She had acting lessons and went to high school where she was classmates with Nicole Kidman. She didn’t graduate and had different jobs, even trying modelling, after which she found her way into acting. She appeared in commercials and TV series and started acting in movies. She’s starred in movies like The Ring, Mulholland Dr., King Kong. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Cate Blanchett

Overview of the roles of actress Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett is this week’s star of “The Many Faces of…”. She was born in 1969 in Melbourne, Australia. As she grew up her interest was in acting, did plays and started appearing in TV shows in 1993 (of which I haven’t been able to find images). She made the step into movies and has an impressive list of movies to her name. She won an Oscar for her role in the Aviator and was nominated four other times. Looking at her roles she’s an actress who can play anything and is able to transform her looks accordingly, reminding me of actor Gary Oldman who is excellent at that as well. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore was born on December 3, 1960 in North Carolina. Since her father was in the military she moved around a lot when growing up. She got her bachelor’s degree at the College of Fine Arts in Drama. She started out playing small roles and finally landed a role in the soap opera As the World Turns where she played twin sisters. She started appearing in movies and played in some succesfull movies like The Fugutive, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski and Magnolia. She received a lot of awards for her role in movie Far from Heaven. She currently has 69 credits on her name on IMDB. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Nicole Kidman

Welcome to another installment of this weekly series, this week starring Australian actress Nicole Kidman. She was born on the 20th of June 1967 on Hawaii (also making her American). Her parents went back to Australia when she was four. There she went to several schools where she showed a talent for acting even though she was quite shy. She studied at various theatre schools. She had her first role at the age of 16 acting in a Christmas movie, Bush Christmas. It was followed by work in a TV series and various roles in other movies. She made her American debut opposite of Tom Cruise (who was her boyfriend at the time) in Days of Thunder and her star quickly began to rise. She won an Oscar for her role in The Hours. The Many Faces of… Gregory Peck

roles gregory peck

Another week, another “Many Faces of…”, this week with a special edition. I usually make these for recent actors/actresses, but since Ruth at Flixchatter was doing a tribute to Gregory Peck I felt obliged to make one especially for the occasion. You’ll be able to see what he looked like in all the roles he played. I think Ruth will be able to tell you way more about this actor than I can, but I’ll give it a shot.

Eldred Gregory Peck was born on April 5 1916 in California. After his parents divorced, he was raised by his grandmother and sent to a military Catholic school at the age of ten. During his school time he rowed, was part of the track team and had his first theatre experience. He majored in English at Berkeley and an acting coach at the university thought he would be the right guy for theatre. He appeared in several plays.

After graduating he moved to New York where he gained more experience. During the second World War he couldn’t fight because of a back injury and was wanted as an actor. He appeared in his first movie, Days of Glory, in 1944. It would be the start of a very long career in which he received one Oscar and several nominations. His last role would be Father Mapple in Moby Dick. He would play Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but died before he could accept it. Continue reading
