Adrien Brody was born on April 14, 1973 in New York. When he was growing up he loved magic and even performed as “The Amazing Adrien” at children’s birthday parties. Later he was enrolled in acting classes by his parents to make sure he wasn’t hanging associating with “dangerous” children. The acting lessons payed of as he appeared in a play and a PBS television film when he was 13. His work in movies continued and he appeared in films like Restaurant, Summer of Sam and The Thin Red Line. It was his role in The Pianist which earned him recognition and fame and an Oscar for Best Actor. After this he played in The Village, King Kong, The Darjeeling Limited, Hollywoodland, Splice, The Brothers Bloom and Predators amongst many others. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Kevin Spacey
I started watching House of Cards this week (which I have to say is an awesome show) and I noticed that I hadn’t featured Kevin Spacey in this series yet. Time to look at the many roles in his career.
Kevin Spacey was born on July 26, 1959 in South Orange, New Jersey. He attended Northridge Military Academy. When he wen to Chatsworth High he acted in a stage production of The Sound of Music where he played Captain Georg von Trapp.He tried his hand at being a stand-up comedian, but also studied drama. He started his professional career in plays. During one of these plays he worked with Jack Lemmon, who became a mentor to him. He made the step into movies and became very successful. He earned an Oscar for his supporting role in The Usual Suspects in 1996 and in 2000 he picked up a second statue for his leading role in American Beauty. The Many Faces of… Chris Hemsworth
Chris Hemsworth was born on August 11, 1983 in Melbourne, Australia. He liked to surf and attended the Heathmont Secondary College. After this he started appearing in small roles in Australian TV shows. He appeared in the soap opera Home and Away and after a few years moved to the US to pursue an acting career there. He appeared in Stark Trek as James T. Kirk’s father. He has appeared in movies like Thor, The Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman, Red Dawn and Rush. Continue reading
The Many Faces of… Catherine Zeta-Jones
Catherine Zeta-Jones was born on September 25, 1969 in Swansea, Wales. She left school early to focus on acting. She went to The Arts Educational Schools in West London. She played the lead in a stage version of Annie and at age 14 she was cast in a production of Bugsy Malone. She kept doing stage plays.
She made her film debut in 1990 in Les 1001 Nuits. Her role in the British TV series The Darling Buds of May brought her to public attention. Zeta-Jones even tried her hand at music and released various singles. It took some years before she had her big breakthrough. When Steven Spielberg saw her performance in the mini-series Titanic he suggested her to the director of The Mask of Zorro, Martin Campbell. She has since starred in various movies including Etrapment, The Haunting, Traffic and America’s Sweethearts, The Terminal, Ocean’s Twelve and Side Effects. The Many Faces of… Jessica Biel
Jessica Biel was born on March 3rd, 1982 in Ely, Minnesota. While growing up her parents moved frequently and finally settled in Boulder, Colorado where she went to Fairview High School. She was into sports and played soccer and did gymnastics. She was trained to be a vocalist. At age twelve she signed up with the Judith Fontaine Modeling & Talent Agency and modeled for various advertisements, inlcuding Pringles and Dulux Paint. Her first movies were It’s a Digital World in 1994 and Ulee’s Gold in 1997. Het first lead role was in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. She has appeared many other movies since including Cellular, Blade: Trinity, Elizabethtown, The Illusioninst, Next, Planet 51, The A-Team, New Year’s Eve, Total Recall and Hitchcock. Continue reading
The Many Faces of… Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson was born on the 3rd of January 1956 in Peekskill, New York. At the age of 12 his his parents moved to Sydney after his father received a big amount of money after a work-related-injury lawsuit. Gibson went to the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney and received a classical training in the British-theater tradition. He did various plays in enactments of Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
He graduated in 1977 and started filming Mad Max while still doing plays. His film debut was in 1977 in SUmmer City. He appeared in various television shows. His first American role was in 1984 in The River. His star really started rising when he played Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon. He has since starred in many other movies including Bird on a Wire, Hamlet, Maverick, Braveheart (for which he won 2 Oscars, best director and best picture), Ransom, Payback, The Patriot, Chicken Run, What Women Want. He directed several movies as well, including Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto. Continue reading
The Many Faces of… Rooney Mara
Rooney Mara was born on April 17, 1985 in Bedford New York. Her great-grandfathers, Tim Mara and Art Rooney, Sr. both founded a football team, the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She went to Fox Lane High School and graduated in 2003 and headed to South America for several months for the Traveling School. She later studied psychology, international social policy and nonprofits and graduated in 2010. Her sister, Kate Mara, was a professional actress and she also wanted to act. She played the role of Juliet in a high school play. She also did a few student films at NYU. She did her first audition when she was 19. She first appeared as an extra, also appearing in TV shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and ER. Her first lead role was in the movie Tanner Hall. She also appeared opposite of Michael Sera in Youth in Revolt. She has since been in movie like A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (which earned her an Oscar nomination) and Side Effects. Continue reading

Choi Min-Sik was born on January 22, 1962 in Seoul, South Korea. He started out acting in on stage and on television. In 1992 he started appearing in movies. His first commercially succesfull role was in Shiri. Internationally he became famous with his role in Old Boy. He is one of my favorite actors and to me can easily measure up to acting giants like De Niro and Pacino. The Many Faces of… Aaron Eckhart
Aaron Eckhart was born on the 12th of March 1968 in Cupertino, California. In 1981 he moved to the UK in 1981 when his father got a job there. He went to the American Community School. There he started acting in a school production. In 1985 he moved to Australia where he continued acting at the American International School of Sydney. He didn’t finish his studies and spent time working at a movie theater and taking time out to surf and ski. He went back to the US in 1988 and was a film major for a while. He ended up graduating with a Bachelor degree for Fine Arts in 1994.
His first role was in 1992 in Double Jeopardy. His first big role was as a biker in Erin Brockovich. Other movie he was in include Nurse Betty, The Pledge, The Core and Paycheck. His big breakthrough came with Thank You For Smoking. He has since starred in a number of movies including The Dark Knight, Rabbit Hole, Battle Los Angeles, The Rum Diary and Olympus Has Fallen. Sharon Stone was born on March 10, 1958 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. She has a degree in creative writing and fine arts. As she was growing up she did modeling and became Miss Crawford County. In 1977 she moved to New Jersey and started working for the Ford Modeling Agency in New York. She wanted to become an actress and had her first role in Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories as an extra. She appeared in various B-movies and had her big break in Total Recall as the wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character. Her real breakthrough came when she played Catherine Tramell in Paul Verhoeven’s Basic Instinct. She has since appeared in a big number of movies including Sliver, The Specialist, The Quick and the Dead, Antz, Casino, Catwoman, Broken Flowers, Alpha Dog and many others.
