Speed (1994) – Review

Review Speed

This week is a bit of a theme week here as I’m reviewing films that contain bombs. So I’ve recently rewatched a couple (and some for the first time) and will review them this week. On Friday I’ll close it of with a top 10 of the best movies with bombs.

So today it’s time for the first movie and that’s one with a Dutch influence. The Many Faces of… Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock was born on July 26, 1964 in Arlington Virginia. Her mother sung opera and she regularly toured with her in Europe. She studied ballet and vocal arts and even sang parts in her mother’s productions. She attende Washington-Lee High School and was a cheerleader and performed in high school plays. In university she studied drama and she got her degree in 1986. She moved to Manhattan to start auditioning and take acting classes. She got a part in an Off-Broadway play and this landed her a role in a TV movie called Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman. She played a lot of small roles in various independent films and starred in the TV series Working Girl. Her first big supporting role was in Demolition Man, but it wasn’t until her role in Speed that she managed to really become succesful. She appeared in movies like While You Were Sleeping, The Net, A Time to Kill, Miss Congeniality, Two Weeks Notice, Crash and The Proposal. She earned an Oscar for her role in The Blind Side. Gravity (2013)

Review of the movie Gravity

There are some movies which deserve the term ‘experience’. They manage to completely transport you to another world or place and really make you forget about the world around you. Gaspar Noé’s Enter the Void was the last movie I used that term, but Gravity is also a movie which deserves that title ‘experience’. The Proposal (2009)

Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) is a very succesful Canadian businesswoman working in Amerika. She rules her department as a dictator. Everyone is afraid of her and she has almost no personal contact with other people. Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) is her assistant and is forced to deliver perfection because if he doesn’t he will lose his job.
When her boss tells Margaret that she is losing her work permit for the US, which would force her to go back to Canada, she already sees the career she worked so hard for disappear. That is until she tells her boss that she can stay in the US as she’s marrying Andrew (who is just as surprised as everyone else about this news). Andrew doesn’t see any other solution than to play along with this. When an INS agent shows up to check on their relationship they are forced to act as if they are a couple. Continue reading →
