Although I’m definitely not the target audience for young adult movies (even though I still feel like I’m young), I can still appreciate them. And just like in every genre there are good and bad movies. I quite enjoyed the first film in this series, but the sequels didn’t manage to convince me as much. Mockingjay Part 1 felt empty and not much seemed to be happening. After 3 movies it’s finally time for the last part. Does it manage to recapture the excitement of the first film? Continue reading

Spectre (2015) – Review
The James Bond franchise is one of the longest running ones in movie history. With its 24th movie, there still is a huge audience wanting to see 007. It’s a character that’s still appealling. This does mean that the world in which it is set needs adjusting once in a while to remain relevant. When Daniel Craig took over the baton from Pierce Brosnan in Casino Royale the series moved away from the weird gadgets en the secret agent lived in a realistic world which was a whole lot darker. Het became a man with feelings who was in real danger. Despite the fact that its sequel, Quantum of Solace, wasn’t as good it was Skyfall (with it’s winks to the past) and an impressive bad guy which won over the hearts of both the public and the reviewers. Does Spectre manage to do the same? Continue reading
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015)
If you know a bit about Steve Jobs, than you are probably familiar with his “reality distortion field”, which he used to convince others that something which seemed impossible still could be done. In my opinion Tom Cruise is also able to use that same technique showing in Mission Impossible movies that he is able to execute great stunts, using them to win over the hearts of moviegoers. The latest Mission Impossible film, Rogue Nation was heavily promoted, showing him hanging on the side of a plane that is about to take off. Does Tom Cruise succeed again in keeping the attention of his audience Continue reading
When Marnie Was There (2014)
These are sad times if you are a fan of Studio Ghibli. Recently both Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki made their final films and it currently seems that When Marnie Was There will be the last movie released by the legendary studio. The demand for animated movies has changed and financing them has become a lot harder. The studio won’t close its doors yet, so there still is hope for a new film, but chances seem slim. Is When Marnie Was There an adequate farewell? Continue reading
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015)
Spongebob Squarepants is a show which has been on television since 1999. The bizarre stories about a sponge who is working in a burger restaurant and his weird friends still manages to entertain both young and old. After his first full-length feature, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, this second movie has been made, which the trailers made out to be some sort of superhero movie. With The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water being available on DVD and Blu Ray it’s a good moment to see if the movie manages to make that come true. Continue reading
Les oubliées (2007)
Starting to watch a new series is always a gamble: Often you don’t know in advance if it’s something you’ll like. How many episodes do you have to watch before you can decide to stop or continue? Probably two or three episodes should be enough right? But even then it can get better or worse. Les oubliées, also known as Forgotten Girls, consists of six episodes, so you would expect that three episodes in you’d be hooked. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case for me at that moment. Continue reading
Tomorrowland (2015)
When director and writer Brad Bird attaches himself to a project, there is enough reason to take notice and anticipate the end result. He directed movies like The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille, but was also responsible for the exciting Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Tomorrowland is his newest “live action” movie. Is the end result worth watching? Continue reading
Børning (2014)
One of the reasons I always enjoy Top Gear (well, until all the stuff with Clarkson happened) is the fantastic way in which the cars are shot. Just when you think you’ve seen everything the team behind the show thinks up a new innovative way to film. The program itself really isn’t about cars, but about entertainment. The same thing is true for the Norwegian comedy Børning. Continue reading
If I Stay (2014)
Even though Chloë Grace Moretz had her big breakthrough as Hit Girl in 2010 (in the movie Kick-Ass), she already had been acting since 2004. She starred in Carrie and could be seen in various comedys. In If I Stay, a romantic drama, she is Mia Hall, a talented cello player. She still lives with her parents, but is about to take a very important step in her life. When she is involved in a car crash though she ends up in a coma and the question is whether she’ll survive. Continue reading
Birdman (2014)
Before Birdman was released over here in the Netherlands I saw nothing but positive reviews and various Oscar nominations. This was one of those movie which I had to wait for a couple of months before I would be able to form my own opinion of it. Just like the movie Paper Man this really isn’t a superhero movie, but a story which focuses on Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton), once a popular actor who is suffering with mental issues. In his case he hears the voice of Birdman, a character with whom he had a lot of success in the past. He has said goodby to that role though. As an actor he is looking for something new to prove himself and stay relevant. He wants to show that he’s more than someone who stands in front of a camera. He does so by bringing a play to the stage which he has written, is directing and starring in. The movie opens during the rehearsals. Continue reading
