Life of Brian (1979)

When it comes to British humour the Monty Python team is one of the best. Well known for their weird sketches, obviously simple humour and absurdity. In this movie the 6 member play about 40 different roles. Is the Life of Brian a movie that you have to when you are a Monty Python fan? Continue reading

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009)

Terry Gilliam has already proved that he knows how to create believable worlds (for example Brazil or 12 Monkeys). In the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus he proves this again. The story is about Dr. Parnassus who has made a bet with the devil and to do win it he’s travelling through Great Britain with a show. With an old-fashioned play he tries people to step into his imaginarium. When a person steps in he will be able to see all the things he is imagining. What was it like to live in east Germany before the wall fell? What did it feel like to have to pay attention to what you said, because you never knew who you could trust or had to think about the possibility of the place you were in being bugged? What was the feeling a Stasi employee had when looking into the lives of others? This movie tries to give an answer to these questions. Continue reading

The Brothers Warner (2008)

When you hear Warner Bros, you’ll probably think about movies or the Looney Tunes. You will not immediately think about a couple of brothers who together started the company that became the name it is now. This documentary, made by a family member, tells the story of how they started and what they did to make the company as well known as it is. Continue reading

On the waterfront (1954)

Marlon Brando, a very impressive actor. Whether you know him from the Godfather (of course his most famous role) or Apocalypse now, the way he acted isn’t comparable to other actors. He was very different in his mannerisms and the way he talked. In “On the waterfront”, based on the story of a dockworker and his struggle with organised crime, we see the story of Terry Malloy. He’s a former boxer who helps the mob by doing small jobs for them. Continue reading

This is it (2009)

This is it is a movie which you watch with mixed feelings. I saw the movie in the cinemas last year and watched it again at home this week. The first feeling i had when this movie would be made was that they wanted to profit off the dead of Jackson. That feeling disappeared after seeing it. You will be amazed to see how Jackson wanted everything to be perfect for his show. The music had to perfect, everybody has to know all their dance moves and nothing can go wrong. The movie clearly shows what an amazing show it would have been. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Continue reading
