Furious 7 (2015)

Review Fast & Furious 7

Despite the fact that there are a lot of movies to look forward to this year, this seventh(!) instalment to the Fast & Furious franchise was on the top of my list. I gave the previous one a perfect score and couldn’t wait to see what the next one would bring. Unfortunately the movie had to be postponed by a year after the unexpected death of one of its main stars, Paul Walker. It meant the movie had to be rewritten because he had not yet filmed everything yet. Has it hurt the film or is Furious 7 still running on all cylinders? Continue reading →

Black Mirror: White Christmas

Black Mirror White Christmas review

With the series Black Mirror, writer/comedian Charlie Brooker has managed to deliver two seasons of an extremely smart TV-show in which he explores the dangers of the quick development in the world of technology. By taking well-known present day concepts and showing what these could lead to in the future he has managed to let its audience think about what could happen: What are the consequences on technological improvements to our body? What is the power of social networks? Or how far are we willing to go when it comes to giving away our privary? It is the reason it is one of my favorite shows and I couldn’t wait to see the Christmas special. The promo shots, which show John Hamm seemingly talking to an egg, made me curious and the question is whether White Christmas has managed to meet my (extremely high) expectations. Wild Tales (2014)

Review Wild Tales

In general short movies don’t get too much attention and I have to admit I’m guilty of that too. I sporadically might watch one when it is suggested by other blogs, but that’s about it. There are movies though which basically collect a couple and that way manage to get noticed, like Paris and New York, I Love You or Movie 43 (which was horrible). Gone Girl (2014)

Review Gone Girl

One of the best directors currently has to be David Fincher. His resume is impressive with movies like Se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the first two episodes of House of Cards. It is a director I always expect much from and he rarely disappoints. “Hi, my name is Nostra and I’m an addict” were the first thoughts that ran trough my mind after watching the documentary Fed Up. Luckily I’m not alone in this and it’s actually most of society that is as well. We all consume something which stimulates our brains even more than cocaine: sugar. I have to admit I eat candy each day, but even if you don’t chances are that you consume more of it than you actually realise, often above the daily recommended limit. The life she has breathed into the characters in those movies have all been memorable and she currently seems incapable of picking bad roles. Review How to train your dragon 2

The first How To Train Your Dragon was, for many unexpectedly, a very well made movie which also got a lot of praise for its use of 3D. Some people even visited the cinema several times because they knew they would not be able to experience it the same way they do in this. I only watched the first movie once but also really enjoyed it. Except knowing that in the original a small town learned to live with dragons I forgot almost everything else about it before watching this one. I did wonder how Dreamworks would be able to go further with the story. Continue reading →

There are some movies which manage to enchant you during their running time, which pull you into a world you like to stay in a bit longer. Chef, which is directed and stars Jon Favreau, this is done by the swiftly moving story, the atmosphere, the awesome soundtrack and of course the food. Review Good Will Hunting

The death of Robin Williams was unexpected and shocked a lot of people. It still is hard to understand why someone who gave so much laughter left life the way he did. Like many other movielovers did, I too decided to check out some of his work. I watched Dead Poets Society for the first time and I also felt it was a good moment to rewatch this movie. It’s been a very long time since I last saw it and except for a general summary of the movie I forgot the rest. I was interested to find out if I would still like it as there are some movies you liked when you were younger and on as rewatch don’t hold up. It wondered how it would turn out for this.
