Sienna Miller and Steve Buscemi star in this remake of the 2003 dutch movie with the same name, made by director Theo Van Gogh (who was murdered in 2004). I have not seen the original, but since I am a big fan of Buscemi I was interested to see what this movie was like (which he also directed). Continue reading

Handsome Harry (2009)
Harry Sweeney (Jamey Sheridan) is an ex-navy officer who has started his own company in a small town when he left the navy. He has been very succesful and is about to sell his company to retire. He receives a phone call from an old friend, Thomas Kelley (Steve Buscemi) asking him to visit and he agrees. Thomas is very ill and knows he will die soon. They start talking about the past and talk about a subject which they have been silent about for years. Together with some other friends they committed a crime. Youth in Revolt (2009)
As is probably already clear when reading the name of the movie, the subject it deals with is growing up and standing up against something, like your parents. Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) is a teenager who, when some things happen at home, has to spend a weekend away from it together with his mother and stepfather. Here he meets Sheeni (Portia Doubleday), the girl of his dreams. When the weekend ends he vows he’ll manage to get back to her by any means necessary. Continue reading
The Messenger (2009)
Sometimes wars are a necessary evil. You regularly see the images in the news or in movies and sometimes forget that there are men and women who choose to fight in a conflict. One of things that is certain in such a situation is that there will be people who will die fighting. When this happens the army wants to inform the next of kin about it. Of course they want to do this before the next of kin hear it through the news or read it online. For this task messengers are used, who will have to tell the bad news. Captain Tony Stone (Woody Harrelson) and Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery (Ben Foster) are two people who have to perform this difficult job. Continue reading
