The Many Faces of… Cate Blanchett

Overview of the roles of actress Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett is this week’s star of “The Many Faces of…”. She was born in 1969 in Melbourne, Australia. As she grew up her interest was in acting, did plays and started appearing in TV shows in 1993 (of which I haven’t been able to find images). She made the step into movies and has an impressive list of movies to her name. She won an Oscar for her role in the Aviator and was nominated four other times. Looking at her roles she’s an actress who can play anything and is able to transform her looks accordingly, reminding me of actor Gary Oldman who is excellent at that as well. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Gregory Peck

roles gregory peck

Another week, another “Many Faces of…”, this week with a special edition. I usually make these for recent actors/actresses, but since Ruth at Flixchatter was doing a tribute to Gregory Peck I felt obliged to make one especially for the occasion. You’ll be able to see what he looked like in all the roles he played. I think Ruth will be able to tell you way more about this actor than I can, but I’ll give it a shot.

Eldred Gregory Peck was born on April 5 1916 in California. After his parents divorced, he was raised by his grandmother and sent to a military Catholic school at the age of ten. During his school time he rowed, was part of the track team and had his first theatre experience. He majored in English at Berkeley and an acting coach at the university thought he would be the right guy for theatre. He appeared in several plays.

After graduating he moved to New York where he gained more experience. During the second World War he couldn’t fight because of a back injury and was wanted as an actor. He appeared in his first movie, Days of Glory, in 1944. It would be the start of a very long career in which he received one Oscar and several nominations. His last role would be Father Mapple in Moby Dick. He would play Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but died before he could accept it. Continue reading

Welcome to a new installment, this week featuring English actor Christian Bale. He was born in 1974. His father was a commercial pilot and his mother worked in the circus. He did his first acting in commercials (for Lenor and Pacman). In 1986 he started appearing in movies and it was his performance in 1987’s Empire of the Sun which earned him lots of praise. He considered quitting, but was convinced to continue acting, which has resulted in an impressive career. He is willing to do a lot for his roles as he has lost massive amounts (up to 30 kilos) of weight to play his roles in The Machinist, Rescue Dawn and The Fighter and gaining it back for roles he did in between. Continue reading

It’s the end of the week, which means the weekend is about to start and a new installment of “The Many Faces of…” is here. His father has a drug problem and unfortunately it is something he shared with his son, who later had issues with them as well. Initially his star rose quickly, but during the nineties he was arrested several times and even had to go to jail. He managed to get back into the spotlight and rose to fame again. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Tom Cruise

This week I take a look at the many roles of Tom Cruise. Whatever your opinion about him off the screen, you can’t deny he has been a very succesful actor, starring in many blockbusters. He was born in 1962 in Syracuse, New York and his family moved to Canada for a while where he attended public school. Attending Henry Munro Middle School he was introduced to drama and starred in plays. He briefly was planning to become a priest, but ended up acting again. In 1981 he appeared in his first movie, Taps, and was the leading man in Risky Business in 1983. It was his breakthrough and since then he has quickly climbed the ladder of success, making him one of the best paid actors in the business. The Many Faces of… Johnny Depp

Overview of the roles of Johnny Depp

Welcome to a new installment of “The Many Faces of”, this week starring one of the highest paid actors in the world, Johnny Depp. He was born in 1963 and his family moved around a bit. Because of family troubles he used to harm himself, resulting in various scars across his body. In his teens he played guitar in various small bands and he dropped out of high school to start a music career. He married in 1983 and his wife, who was a makeup artist, introduced him to Nicolas Cage who told him he should try his hand in acting. The marriage didn’t last long. His breakthrough came in 1987 when he starred in the television series 21 Jump Street and girls all around the world idolised him. Wanting to break away from being pushed as an idol he decided to only do movies he was interested in. He has starred in an eclectic selection of movies and has a long term collaboration with director Tim Burton. An overview of his many roles (as usual) after the break. Continue reading
