The Monday Question: Substance!

Last week I asked you if you sometimes feel like blogging is becoming another task instead of something you really enjoy doing. I got some great reactions and although I am still not back in full blogging mode (as you have noticed my “The Many Faces of…” posts are still not appearing) I am trying to get back into the swing of things. Actually my fourth entry for the 5 Obstructions blogathon challenges me a bit to really spend some time writing in a different way as I’m used to (the post is still not ready, but hopefully will be soon) and that helps. Writing such a long review did make think about the content of what each of us is writing and made me wonder:

What is it in a review which makes you read more of that reviewer?

As a review is an opinion of just one person I really enjoy reviews if someone shares personal stuff as well and makes it part of the review. It describes their experience in relation to the movie and how it impacts them. I don’t necessarily need a long review….even some reviews which only use 140 characters can be enough if I only want to know if a movie is any good. Interested in what you are looking for in a review!

The Monday Question: Automatic!

For the past month I have not been very active in regards to my blog. You might not have noticed too much of it since I prepared quite a few posts in advance, but ever since I came back I have to admit that I have been a bit out of the blogging “cycle”. I normally write all my posts during the weekends and that drive I just has not returned yet, which is why last week I did not have a Monday Question or a new “The Many Faces of…” post on Friday.

Now don’t worry, this isn’t one of those posts where I’m announcing that I will stop, but taking a break for such a long time you do notice that with slightly less blogging I’m also really enjoying my movie watching and don’t feel that compulsion to immediately start writing about something I have watched. I’m sure other bloggers can relate to that feeling as we all have times when you think about your blog and this is one of those moments for me. I am really thinking about things I could change or new things I could do to also keep challenging myself (I guess the 5 Obstructions blogathon is a good one to make sure I do). Anyway, enough of my rambling, my question this week is:

Do you sometimes feel like blogging has become “another task” to finish up and if so what do you do in order to keep it enjoyable?

The Monday Question: Cinema visit!

Although you might not have noticed, I have been on holiday for the past three weeks (had scheduled quite some posts to keep you entertained though), so this week I will slowly start posting again and visiting your blogs (I’m afraid to see how many posts are waiting in my inbox). So as always let’s start the week again with a Monday question.

As much as I’d like to visit the cinema, time simply does not allow me to see every movie I want there. Looking at the type of movies I saw at the cinema this year I realised something: I actually only seem to watch the big effect heavy movies on the big screen. Which of course is not that surprising as those are the ones you will get the most out of seeing them on a big screen. I don’t mind seeing “smaller” movies at home as I don’t feel I am missing out on much.

This week’s question:
What type of movies do you go and see at the cinema?

The Monday Question: Food in movies!

This week’s question might be quite a strange one, but it’s one based on food in movies. When watching movies there are always scenes of people eating or a character always wanting to eat something specific. When I watched Zombieland one character stood out when it came to food, the one Woody Harrelson was playing. He had an obsession with Twinkies. Since the product ceased production it seemed that the product would never be made anymore and it seemed a case of fiction turned into reality. Although production has begun again that movie made me wonder what Twinkies tasted like. They aren’t sold over here but when I was at the airport last week I saw a box of Twinkies and just had to buy it to find out. Turns out that they aren’t very tasty as all, so I was quite disappointed.

Which movie food has disappointed you when you tried it?

Since today is my birthday I have decided to give myself a week off and enjoy some other things, so don’t expect any other posts this week. Will be back next Monday!

The Monday Question: Old posts!

As a blogger you write a lot of posts. Posts you put a lot of time in and which are usually only read the first week they are published (with a few exceptions of course). I get all new blog posts of the blogs I follow automatically sent to my mailbox and it can sometimes take a while before I read them. Looking at the dates of the comments it confirms this and I usually feel like I’m (very) late to the party.

It made me wonder:
How often do you check out older posts a blogger has written?

The Monday Question: Voiceover!

Last week I had a day to myself and decided to spend most of the day at the cinema. I saw three 3D movies (which I don’t suggest trying as you eyes will kind of hurt afterwards) and one of them was Monster University. In front of it there was a trailer for the Walking with Dinosaurs movie which will come out at the end of the year and I noticed something: The trailer had a voiceover. It made me realise that not many trailer use them anymore. Although I think it is not necessary to have them as a taste of a movie can be given quite effectively without them I felt a bit of nostalgia.

Just listen to this:

So this week’s question:
Do you think that more trailers should have voiceovers or don’t you miss them?

The Monday Question: Inaccurate!

Besides blogging about movies I think we all have a job which has little to do with movies. So besides knowing a lot about films we have some form of expertise on another subject. That knowledge might have nothing to do with movies, but when watching movies this knowledge can distract you when something in a movie is not really accurate. I’ve been working in IT for quite a while and although it has been getting better one of the biggest annoyances of mine when watching movies is the way computer interfaces are shown. Usually they beep with everything you do (just imagine having to hear that all that while you are writing your blog posts) and people using who know a little bit about them can really do anything possible. “Can you hack into the most secure network in the world? Sure no problem, give me 2 minutes.” Although I won’t say that they spoil movies for me scenes like that do make me realise for a moment that I’m watching a movie and it takes me back to reality for a moment.

So I would also like to ask you:
Which inaccuracies in movies can distract you while watching them?

The Monday Question: Best of the year!

The year is progressing fast and I thought it was a good moment to look back at your favorite movies you have seen this year up to now. I think it offers a chance to hear about movies you might not have seen yet (or have not even heard of), but which others loved.

My personal top 5:
5. Upstream Color
4. The Impossible
3. The Place Beyond the Pines
2. Fast & Furious 6
1. Before Midnight

Which movies are currently in your top 5 of 2013?

The Monday Question: Holiday!

With the summer months having started, it is that time of the year that a lot of people are finally are taking their time off. This week’s my question is a simple one:

If you go on holiday, do you also take a break from blogging?

Personally I will be planning some posts during my time away, but I will be checking in occasionally if time allows it.
