The Monday Question: Distributors!

The Monday Question

Recently I have been spending a lot of time improving the Dutch version of my site, also moving it to a self hosted server and making improvements on it. You see I have been spending way more time on this blog than to the one I started with. Of course less attention is something you also see back in your results and I have been working hard on improving it. I decided to be more pro-active, so now make sure I have as many updates there as I do here and I’m slowly seeing the results. One thing I have also have been doing is contacting film distributors to put me on the distribution list, so I am aware of the latest releases. It also means I will receive review version of some releases. The good thing about it is that these are sometimes movies I probably would have never heard of or not given a chance. It also sometimes means I have more things to watch then I got time, but calling it a problem would be a bit too much. I also get invitations for press viewings, but as these are usually at times I am working I unfortunately can not go to those. This made me wonder:

Have you contacted film distributors about being on their mailing list and what are your experiences with them? Do you think a more direct relation with a film distributor can change your view on what you think of a movie?

The Monday Question: Design!

The Monday Question

As you have probably noticed I have done an update to the look of the site. Through the couple of years I have been blogging it is not the first time I have made changes (probably the 4th or 5th time) as I felt the logos needed updating. I hope you like the new look and it made me wonder:

How regularly do you make changes to your blog design?

The Monday Question: Last!

Hope you had a very good weekend. I finally got around to writing my own entry to the Life, Love and the Movies blogathon and have been very busy preparing the move of the Dutch version of this site to the same server this one is running on. It all went fairly smoothly and I just have to make a couple of small adjustment before I will have moved away completely from WordPress.com. Which also means I did not have a lot of time to think of a question to ask you. So I’ll go with an easy one:

What’s the last movie you watched?

I managed to watch Bounty Killer on Saturday, which basically is a movie that is in the same league as Machete. Quite bad, but entertaining enough to keep you watching.

The Monday Question: Top 10!

Each and every year a whole lot of bloggers create a list of their favorite movies they saw this year. I am no exception as I have been doing it since I started this blog. It made wonder about the process of creating it. The way I do it is to keep track is to keep a list on which I put the movies I think that should be in my top 10. This is something I do throughout the year and I only add a movie if I think it is strong enough to possibly make it. Usually at the end of the year I end up with slightly more than ten movies on that list and I will go through them deciding which ones I deem “worthy”, followed by ranking them. Picking the top 3 usually is the easiest, the rest of them takes a little more time.

What is the way you create your top 10 movies list?

The Monday Question: Highlight!

Since the end of the year is almost hear it is a week of looking back. I will be doing so later this week with a post about my filmyear of 2013. I am wondering about you movie year:

What was you movie related highlight of the year? This could be a movie, but also maybe something else related to movies.

The Monday Question: Christmas!

As it is almost Christmas there is only one thing to ask you a question about:

Do you have any movie related plans for Christmas?

Although I have not planned on watching any specific movie it will probably come down to watching one (or more) of my favorite Christmas movies (Home Alone, Elf, A Muppet Christmas Carol). Will not be writing any new posts this week, but I do want to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

The Monday Question: Prepare!

At the moment there are a lot of sequels released or about to be released. On Saturday the BBC showed Anchorman and as the sequel is about to be released I thought it was a good idea to give it a chance again (I didn’t like it the first time I saw it and still don’t). It made me wonder:

Before you go see a sequel, do you prepare by watching previous movies?

In general I do not rewatch movies before watching a sequel as I usually remember the general idea of the previous movie(s). It does mean that I sometimes miss out on some small parts of a story (for example with the last Wolverine movie), but I’ll take that chance.

The Monday Question: Timing!

With the death of Nelson Mandela last week and the death of Paul Walker a week earlier I was wondering about movies. In case of Paul Walker starring him and in case of Mandela about him. Walker’s VOD movie Hours will be released at the end of the week and the movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom starring Idris Elba is also starting to play in cinemas. The fact these movies are playing so shortly after their deaths gives me a double feeling. Of course they might be worthwhile movies, but their timing also gives me a feeling of trying to cash in on the actual news about them. So this week’s question:

What do you think about the timing of movies released shortly released after someone’s death?

The Monday Question: Most watched movie!

Despite watching so many movies that are new to me there are always movies which you keep returning to, which you will rewatch and not get bored of. Today’s question is about that:

What is your most watched movie?

Although I must admit that I have never kept track of the amount of times I watched a specific films I think Coming to America must be one of those movies I have seen a lot. It is not a movie I will put on myself, but if I come across it on TV I will usually watch it. There are more movies like that, but this was the first I could think of when I thought of this question. Interested in your most watched movie(s)!
