I’m someone who did not grow up reading comics. I occasionally read Donald Duck or Spike and Suzy, but I did head to to the bookstore every week to buy them. The Marvel comics therefore never registered with me and I wasn’t really interested in them. But thanks to all the movies and series in recent years, I understand why people love the Marvel comics. Every superhero does have his/her own characteristics, which means there is always one which appeals to you. After seeing Deadpool last week it did make me interested in reading comics with him. Through the films and the various series you get to know these characters and the quality of them is usually high. After the fantastic Daredevil it released the next super hero at the end of last year: Jessica Jones. Continue reading

Broadchurch – Season 1 – Review
Even though TV offers a lot of new shows, I’ve been watching quite a few older shows on Netflix lately. It is nice not having to wait a week before finding out what will happen during the next episode. The fact that I recent years I watched more movies than TV means I’ve missed a lot of good shows, including Broadchurch. It was recommended to me by several people and since season only consists of eight episodes (short series have in fact my preference) it was a good show to start with and finish in only a couple of days. Continue reading

Sometimes you hear about these very popular shows and if you hear about them just enough, you might be interested in checking it out just to see what all the fuss is sabout. Just before the second season of Scandal started I decided to check out the first season. Continue reading
Les oubliƩes (2007)
Starting to watch a new series is always a gamble: Often you don’t know in advance if it’s something you’ll like. How many episodes do you have to watch before you can decide to stop or continue? Probably two or three episodes should be enough right? But even then it can get better or worse. Les oubliĆ©es, also known as Forgotten Girls, consists of six episodes, so you would expect that three episodes in you’d be hooked. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case for me at that moment. Continue reading

The Code: Season 1
There were a couple of years where I just stopped watching TV shows. The main reason for this was the fact that they take up so much time when compared to movies, but last year I decided to dip my feet into the world of television again and have loved shows like Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Black Mirror, The Bridge (original version) and many more. Recently I watched this Australian show, which because of its length, just six episodes, was nice and short. Lees verder
Galapagos (2014)
The Galapagos islands have been very important for our knowledge and theories about evolution. A visit of Darwin to them, where he did research with eventually would lead to his important evolution theory. That theory explains the diversity and small differences between various animals. Nature expert David Attenborough revisits the islands for the fourth time, which are famous for their unique nature and animals. Continue reading
Black Mirror: White Christmas
With the series Black Mirror, writer/comedian Charlie Brooker has managed to deliver two seasons of an extremely smart TV-show in which he explores the dangers of the quick development in the world of technology. By taking well-known present day concepts and showing what these could lead to in the future he has managed to let its audience think about what could happen: What are the consequences on technological improvements to our body? What is the power of social networks? Or how far are we willing to go when it comes to giving away our privary? It is the reason it is one of my favorite shows and I couldn’t wait to see the Christmas special. The promo shots, which show John Hamm seemingly talking to an egg, made me curious and the question is whether White Christmas has managed to meet my (extremely high) expectations. Continue reading
Gomorra – Season 1
Organised crime has always been an interesting subject for both movies and television shows. People are always fascinated by people who live their lives outside the rules. Even though they are always in danger they wield power and wealth allowing them to live a life of luxury. The Godfather movies and a tv show like The Sopranos are extremely popular not because they are all about a violent existence, but mainly because they also show the personal relationship between people and show the effects the environment they are living in can have on them. It is what the 12 episode first season of the Italian mafia series Gomorra also attempts to show. Continue reading
A Young Doctor’s Notebook (2012)
The problem with TV shows/series for me is that they generally require a huge investment of time. With long seasons and many episodes it usually means that during the time I am enjoying a TV show that I can not spend that time watching movies. It is the reason I didn’t pay much attention to series for the past few years. At the end of last year I decided to try again (watching House of Cards and Lilyhammer) and was immediately hooked. So this year I have been watching a lot more shows. A Young Doctor’s Notebook is a miniseries which has the running of the average movie. With just four 22 minute episodes this was something I could easily devour quickly without it cutting into my movie watching. So is it any good? Continue reading
