Furious 7 (2015)

Review Fast & Furious 7

Despite the fact that there are a lot of movies to look forward to this year, this seventh(!) instalment to the Fast & Furious franchise was on the top of my list. I gave the previous one a perfect score and couldn’t wait to see what the next one would bring. Unfortunately the movie had to be postponed by a year after the unexpected death of one of its main stars, Paul Walker. It meant the movie had to be rewritten because he had not yet filmed everything yet. Has it hurt the film or is Furious 7 still running on all cylinders? Continue reading →

Fast and Furious 6 (2013)

The general feeling about sequels is usually that they are a bad thing. Many franchises ran out of steam quickly (Pirates of Carribean, Police Academy, Terminator, Die Hard to name a few) and there is a big number of people who despise sequels, they are often seen as lazy and rehashing an idea. But for every A Good Day to Die Hard there is a Toy Story 3 and there are more examples. Looking at the Fast & Furious franchise I would have never thought that a movie about street racing would result in another 5 movies. Even though the opinions about them might be mixed (personally I didn’t like Tokyo Drift, but had a great time with the rest), nobody can’t deny that is has been a successful run. Part of this is because it stept away from purely street racing and moving towards heists and action, while keeping the fast cars front and center. With Fast Five Dwayne Johnson was added to the existing roster of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and many other returning faces and it injected fresh blood to make it even more exiting. Seeing Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson fight was a cool thing to see. Fast & Furious 6 sees Dwayne Johnson returning, just like the rest of the crew. Continue reading →

The Many Faces of… Vin Diesel

It’s Friday and time for a new installment of this weekly series. This time I decided to take a look at action star Vin Diesel. He was born as Mark Sinclair Vincent on July 18, 1967 in New York. He first appeared in a play at the age of seven. The reason he was in that play was because him, his brother and several friends had broken into the theater planning to vandalize it, but were offered parts by the artisitc director when he found them.

When he went to Hunter college he remained interested in acting and as he loved writing he started writing screenplays and making films. His first (uncredited) movie role was in Awakenings and the next movie was Multi-Facial, which he wrote, directed and starred in. He also did so for his next movie, Strays. Saving Private Ryan was the first big movie he starred in and he also did voice work for the giant in The Iron Giant. Next up were the Boiler Room and Pitch Black, but it was when The Fast and Furious came out he really became famous. He has since starred in a lot of action movies, but also tried different types of roles in both comedies and dramas. Continue reading →

Fast Five (2011)

Dominic (Vin Diesel) and his crew are back and on the run from the authorities (in the form of Dwayne Johnson). Stuck in Rio de Janeiro with no money there is only one way to earn something and this is by doing a car related heist. Unfortunately not everything goes as planned and the crew make a plan which will allow them to escape the authorities and also get rid of one of Rio’s biggest drug bosses. Continue reading →
